Call for submissions: Hong Kong Young Architects & Designers Competition – Temporary Pavilion
To inspire innovation and nurture new architectural talent in Hong Kong, West Kowloon is launching the Hong Kong Young Architects & Designers Competition – a new event to create an iconic Temporary Pavilion in the Nursery Park in Hong Kong. The competition offers an opportunity for young architects and designers to follow a design through to physical completion. The pavilion will be located close to the waterfront and offer an inviting, informal public space that enhances visitor experience of the park and can also function as a venue for talks, workshops and small performances.
Call for submissions are open from Hong Kong residents currently studying Architecture, Design or a related discipline, as well as those who have graduated in the last ten years. Three short-listed entries will be selected for further development by a panel of highly respected local and international judges that includes Thomas Heatherwick, James Corner and Sou Fujimoto. The designer of the winning entry will receive an award of HK$250,000 and a prize certificate, as well as the design taken forward to construction in the Nursery Park. Two other short-listed entries will receive commendation awards of HK$100,000.
By promoting the work of emerging young local talent, and design that is exciting, accessible and sustainable, West Kowloon plan to create a model for an annual competition that can raise the international profile of Hong Kong and become an established fixture in the global creative calendar.
