Right.. The first 3 words that popped up in your head when I say “Middle East Fashion”. Bling? Conservative? Tacky? Glamor? Or how about Edgy? Razor-sharp? Creative? Innovative?
Step aside your stereotype of Middle East fashion, the new breed of regional designers will take you by surprise! Allow me to introduce you Middle-East avant-garde heavy weight Khulood Thani.
Born and raised in Dubai, Khulood Thani is the first UAE national to hold a degree in Fashion Management and Marketing from ESMOD Paris. She also studied at the prestigious London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martins.
Combining the meticulous skill of a designer with the sharp mind of an entrepreneur, Khulood launched BINT THANI in 2012. The brand quickly became known in the region for its distinctive silk turbans, and most recently for everyday luxury designs that are grounded in Dubai yet have global relevance.
Her latest collection “Cubist Moods” draw inspiration from the artistic movement “Cubism” and related iconic modern buildings in Dubai.
She also presented the first ever made in Dubai 3D printed dress, “urban corp” during an highly successful event “Meet D3, Dubai Design District” earlier this year.
It has long been on the Government of UAE's agenda to make Dubai an ultra modern city and the next fashion capital. With the amount of talents popping up here in the UAE, i think we will soon give the current fashion capitals a run for their money!
