Yesterday, Friday Jan 27th was the start of headland Sculpture On The Gulf on Waiheke Island. I headed out last night, as the sun was starting to set, to check out all the cool sculptures, 35 of them, on this 2km long walk along the coast. It was a gorgeous night and I can highly recommend for everyone to head out and do this, it is great for families and dogs too!
Guided by terrain and place, both highly respected senior and more recently established New Zealand artists has transformed a two kilometre section of headland from Church Bay towards Te Atawhai Whenua Reserve and Matiatia with ambitious and striking art works.
The map of the area and the art trail
Such a gorgeous setting!
Close up. Love the birds on the corners!
Would be pretty amazing to find that gem!
But WHERE is it??!
Fun for the whole family! Kids and dogs included.
The view from that chair. Not too bad... Ferry leaving Matiatia and Waiheke Island for Auckland.
Some of the installations are sound, like this one.
Earth pushers - A piece requiring active participation.
A moving piece, down at the Matiatia Ferry Terminal where the trail ends.
Not considered an art work but rather a piece of architecture. Whichever it is, it is stunning..
