Sotheby’s Hong Kong Classical Chinese Paintings spring sale will take place on April 3rd at Hall 5, Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This sale presents 100 lots of classical Chinese paintings and calligraphy from celebrated private collections including the Mo Boji Family Collection and Si Wei Tang. Among the highlights of the sale are Landscapes by Shitao, formerly in the Wu Hufan Collection, Landscape after Huang Gongwang by Wang Yuanqi and Geese on the Waterfront by Ma Ben. This Spring, we are pleased to present a stellar line-up of outstanding works, many of them fresh-to-the-market and from distinguished private collections with impeccable provenance.

He continued, "Highlights include a number of works that have passed through the hands of titled owners, led by Shitao’s brilliant Landscape, formerly in the Wu Hufan Collection, and Ma Ben’s kinetic Geese on the Waterfront, formerly in the Southern Song Imperial Collection and the Collection of Pan Jitong (1791-1850). Expansive yet deeply focussed, the sale also offers Ming and Qing Dynasty paintings and calligraphy with scholarly taste, such as works by pioneering female painter Fang Wanyi and Qing Dynasty monk Dan Gui.”
