 A thousand artists will be on display at over 110 galleries with a diverse range of art to suit all budgets and tastes alongside new charity partner Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong, at the Affordable Art Fair this weekend in Hong Kong.

The Affordable Art Fair is the world’s most visited art fair with over 250,000 visitors attending each year, embodying its focus on accessibility to a diverse audience. The fair showcases both established and exciting new galleries, whilst also elevating young artists on an important global platform. What to expect from this, the 5th edition of the fair in Hong Kong? We have the highlights of the fair, running from May 19th-21st, starting with a VIP preview on May 18th.

Fair Highlights

  • The ArtHappy Fund returns asking audiences “Who is your favourite artist and why?”, with the opportunity to win HKD$10,000 towards an artwork at the fair.

  •  TEDxWanChai will host a salon “Art. Who Cares?” on Saturday 20th May with an inspiring and exceptional line up of guest speakers, live performances and TED talk videos.

  •  The cutting edge Young Talent Hong Kong will present a range of exceptional locally grown recent graduate artists alongside previous Young Talent Hong Kong alumni. 

    To celebrate the 5th year of the successful Young Talent Hong Kong exhibition, co-curators Eric Leung (Art Consultant & Curator) and May Wong (Fair Manager, Affordable Art Fair) will bring together the best new graduates alongside a selection of previously featured Young Talent Hong Kong artists. New cutting-edge recent graduates TANG Ming Sum, CHEUK Wing Nam, Zaffer CHAN Sui Ying, CHU Yiu Wai, Lonely LAU Siu Chung will give a new perspective and insight into these young artists’ minds. Alongside them, past Young Talent artists will offer a showcase of work presenting the development of their careers and their practice since first participating with the fair and will include; LAU Ching-Wa, Jess, TUNG Wing Hong and Dirty Paper, YIP Kin Bon, Elvis and SIU Wai Hang.

  •  A collectors highlight, FRESH presents the best new artists from around the world at the fair for the first time.

    After its inaugural year at the fair in 2016, FRESH returns to present works by artists from around the world who are new to Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong. This year artists will include; pop surrealist Dina Goldstein (Canada), recognised visual artist, curator and art educator Urich Lau (Singapore), Lu Yu (China) from new gallery La Vu, distinctive artist Hagar Vardimon (Israel) who uses threads on paper, local ceramic artist Ryan Cheng (Hong Kong), Gareth Hayward (United Kingdom) who creates works by photographing layers of feathers to form wings as well as artist led group Xiang Demei (China) led by Hei Yiyang which creates collages using money and paper to re-examine at the world.

  • A special partnership with M+, the new museum for visual culture in Hong Kong, will see the travelling creative studio M+ Rover on site in the Creative Hub 

  •  The Creative Hub will feature interactive education activities including Children’s Art Studio, new print workshop and virtual reality museum tours 

    The new Creative Hub will provide an immersive area for visitors to explore and grow their creativity with an array of art activities. New for 2017, M+ will bring the M+ Rover on site to the Creative Hub. The customised trailer is a travelling pop-up creative studio that will tour secondary schools and community spaces until June this year. The initiative creates a space and an experience that connects people in the community and inspires young audiences, echoing the core ethos of the fair. The M+ Rover is commissioning local illustrator and comic writer Rainbow Leung for this year’s programme.

  •  A variety of tours on offer to help visitors learn more about art. Tours will focus on a number of key themes 

    The tours will help visitors learn more about art, from virtual reality museum tours, to group tours explaining different art techniques, exploring the depth of talent from Hong Kong artists and galleries, as well as Affordable Art Fair Director picks and under $10,000 highlights.
